The purpose of the First Presbyterian Church
is to share with others the good news of Christ, to develop spiritually
in love and knowledge of Jesus Christ, to expand in service to the community,
to nuture and care for membersand non-members, and to enable members to
be disciples of Christ in their everyday living.
To this end, we enthusiastically continue to support
other Christian ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, reach out to the
community through our nursing home visitation, food pantry, Sunday School and Worship. The church building
also houses a nursery school and serves as a meeting place for several
community groups.
Our
congregation is a Stephen Ministry Congregation. Our Stephen Ministers
provide confidential one-on-one Christian care for individuals needing
support under a wide variety of circumstances. It is communication-based
and is available to church members and the community at large.

Our
Youth Director maintains an active program for children of all ages. Activities
include a strong Sunday School curriculum, children's sermons within adult
worship, seasonal events, mission trips and participation in youth conferences.
For the past 13 summers our Senior and Junior Highs have gone on a supervised
week-long canoe trip with the pastor and/or youth director.
Several
Women's Groups meet monthy. The Presbytery-wide women's weekend retreat
each
year is a highlight on the church calendar. The popular Men's Breakfast
Group gathers early atthe church once a month to worship, hear
a speaker and share a meal. Our Adult Education Committee presents
mini-courses on Christian issues each Sunday during the Christian
Education hour. Two Study with Pastor groups are held during the
week.

The
congregation of First Presbyterian Church is appreciative of a strong music
program. Our enthusiastic Sanctuary Choir sings September through
June. The Youth Choir and Cherub Choir rehearse weekly between services
and sing monthly during the second service and for special events. Members
of all ages who play musical instruments are often invited to participate
in Sunday services.
